Since its inception in February of 2009, the Chinese government has used the “Food Safety Law of the People’s Republic of China” as the backbone for a complete overhaul of the country’s food safety regulations. The above law was since revised in 2015 and has been supplemented with related announcements of varying specificity.

One of the newest announcements, entitled “Administrative Measures for the Registration of Formulas of Infant Formula Milk Powder”, aims to curtail any unsafe or problematic practices in the industry’s future.

The guidelines described in this announcement are rightfully very strict, considering the problems the PRC has had with the Infant Formula Milk Powder industry in the past. It should be duly noted that these rulings apply just as much to foreign enterprises as they do to domestic ones. Accordingly, it is imperative that pertinent companies familiarize themselves with this announcement that will take effect on October 1st, 2016.
